Don't be put off by the graphics. The gameplay more then make up for it. |
TTD or
Transport Tycoon Deluxe, as you may know it, was one of Chris Sawyers infamous
Tycoon games that took the gaming world by storm. With TTD releasing in 1995 it’s
done incredibly well to still be going strong today. And its well-deserved of
its achievement. As with any
other of Sawyers Tycoon games, the aim of TTD is to have the best transport
company in all the land. This isn’t easy when you’re competing with up to 15
other companies, which have no problem with sabotaging your infrastructure. Whether
that be boats, trains, cars, aeroplanes, helicopters or even the occasional
hovercraft, your competition will always find a way.
The amount of control you have is unreal. |
Thanks to a
group of modders, Transport Tycoon Deluxe has been brought into the 21st
century in the form of OpenTTD. OpenTTD mimics the original game all most exactly,
but adds the benefit of bringing the game mechanics up to speed with an easier
to use HUD, and developments tools. The added multiplayer feature pus the
cherry on top of the icing on the cake. Being able to compete against your real
friends adds a whole new dynamic to the game as you all seem to battle to take
control of the biggest towns with the best resources. Teaming up rarely seems
to work, business is a traitorous game.
If you didn’t
check out TTD when it came out in 1995, don’t worry, you haven’t missed your
chance. Go and check out OpenTTD and you won’t want to leave your computer for
a good week or two. And what have you got to loose, its free! http://www.openttd.org/en/
